We redeemed our free offer for humus, our waitress Angela is the very best and sweetest person you just can't imagine. Be sure and ask for her if you frequent the restaurant. One of our guests was running late and the staff was very courteous. Love this place.

We absolutely love the tavern! Anthony, Kelly, Christie and the entire staff are phenomenal! The ambiance is beyond excellent and the food is always wonderful! My only recommendation to the chef is to bring the chicken and rice soup from Mission Farms to the Village!!!

Went here for dinner with the family, no wait which was great, not blown away by the food though. We had hummus and chicken skewers for appetizers. I was starving so we ended up eating everything but not the most flavorful food I've tried. Then I had the sea scallops for dinner, each scallop had a different texture (total of 4), was not sure if that meant they all were cooked a little different or if it was the topping that made it seem that way. It was good, but I will try something different next time. The rest of my family got the kale salad with salmon, everyone ate the whole thing and all said it was tasty! Then we had chocolate cake for dessert, moist and filled with chocolate delight, definitely the best part of the meal! I will be going back, the waiter was nice and the vibe was neat. I just will be trying a different entree next time.

I always leave Tavern a little disappointed. It's truly nothing bad but it's also nothing great. The decor is a comfortable, boring Johnson County look. The service is usually good unless you go during off hours and then it can be lacking. The food is fine. Nothing special, nothing mind blowing but always fine and passable. The place that seems to thrive here is the bar. The bar area seems to be where the regulars hang out and treated nicely. I wish that would carry over into the dining room, also. It's all OK.

The spot where Tavern is nestled into has been a revolving door for restaurants, but I think it's safe to say that has finally come to a close. The Tavern will be a staple in the Village for a long time. The atmosphere here is pretty perfect for meeting up with family, which is key around the PV and Mission Hills area. The menu is diverse enough to intrigue you, but not so big that it overwhelms you. Usually I'll venture out and try a bunch of options when I visit a restaurant repeatedly, but I'm going to be honest here and let you know that I get the burger 9/10 times and it's absolutely delicious. The price is right, the quality is top-notch, and the fries that come with it are near perfection. The Cuban sandwich is another family fav and it's really good. The Tavern surprises me with it's versatility; I mentioned a good family spot, but oddly enough it would serve as a good date spot and also a good gathering place for drinks. I'm glad this spot has an official anchor tenant with The Tavern and now I need to drag myself out of bed early enough to try the breakfast some weekend.

Still Five Stars. In Every Way. Updated for amazing service (we waited for our reserved table for maybe 10 minutes and the manager came over to apologize and brought over a free appetizer plate!). He even offered to take our order? I mean. Wow. Also, since I wrote my first review in 2014, I have probably frequented this location 20 times (yes, and we host many of our happy hour drinks here with friends). It's our go to. The donut dessert is great to share and is to die for - I also think its $6 dollars (maybe $4) - what a great deal. It's the best dessert in the KC area (tied with the raw lime key pie at Cafe Gratitude they never seem to have!!!!)

Great food, and great service! But oh the noise! The noise the noise the noise!! I could not believe how exceedingly loud this restaurant became. It was crowded and the 6 patrons in the booth next to us must had some hilarious stories because they ALL laughed and shrieked the entire evening. Our waitress even told us she was hiding in the kitchen to keep her own ear drums from bursting! But the food was great, loved the trout...The brussel sprouts needed more time in the oven. Crisp sprouts are hard to chew. Hoping we get a quieter night next time!

Good service. Good prices for portion size and quality. Unique cocktail list. Nice high top bar area for watching a game yet comfortable more upscale dining area on other side.

This is a limited review and I will try The Tavern again and most likely update this review. I went to the Tavern for the first time last night for drinks with a friend. The Moscow Mule was on my mind as summer is ending and my desire for light, crisp drinks will wane. Additionally I picked up two more copper mugs from an estate the previous weekend. Sadly my ice maker is clogged up with Kansas City's finest hard water (hardness level is 107...I prefer around 30) so my ice maker was out and I ran out of store bought ice. That is only relevant because I really wanted a Moscow Mule and could not make one at home. I walk in for the first time to The Tavern. It was much less busy than I expected. My friend who joined me told me its usually much busier. I ordered a Moscow Mule. I got a vodka with lime and something. It came in a glass. I did not complain. It wasn't a mule but it also wasn't horrible. I ordered another one. I asked for a copper mug and I asked if they used ginger beer. I got a NO and a YES. When my second one came out there was no ginger beer in it. I asked if I could get some added. The guy brought me a pour and it finally tasted like a mule. Overall the drink experience was not good. The place calls itself the Tavern. Any good tavern should have a copper mug and know how to make pretty standard drinks. I will go again and get some food. I hear good things about it.

I got the crab cake BLT which was surprisingly phenomenal. The downside was that they were two crab cakes awkwardly sitting in a long bun. The bacon was cooked perfectly to compliment the crab cakes and the diced tomatoes and chopped lettuce made it easy to eat. In terms of beer selection, they are extremely limited, but I'm spoiled with beer because I've been to Yard House twice this week. The service was a bit rushed: two people within two minutes asking me for my drink order. Also, when I asked for a recommendation, my server started listing out half of the menu. Overall, great food and great atmosphere. Would definitely bring a date here.

Nice staff, welcoming and cool atmosphere. Not 5 stars because the food was just ok and a little pricey for a "fancy bar and grill" feel. Good date night spot in Prairie Village, though.

We were searching for a great brunch spot for our girls weekend and this was a hidden gem! Such great food, good service and a fab patio sitting area. Loved the breakfast nachos! Will be back!

Greeted by a friendly hostess for Saturday brunch, we were promptly seated and delivered menus and water as part of a Yelp event. They have a wide array of menu options on their new brunch menu, so it was difficult to make a selection. I settled on the crab cake benedict. My dining companions got the creme brulee french toast, the suisse madame, and the huevos rancheros. If I hadn't gotten the benedict, I most likely would have gotten the huevos because they looked awesome! I'm a huge proponent of breakfast appetizers so when hot plates of house made beignets coated in powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar donut bites arrvied, I was in heaven. Definitely melt in your mouth perfection! The benedict came with tender crisp asparagus, topped with incredibly meaty crab cakes (very little breading - all crab!), perfectly poached eggs and a creamy hollandaise sauce. The plate was rounded out with crispy breakfast potatoes. The french toast was decadent - a bit sweet for my taste, filled with a berry cream cheese and soaked in a rich creme custard prior to being seared to a golden hue. The suisse madam consisted of a baguette topped with house made sausage (which was a bit too heavy on the sage) along with a tomato jam that really complimented the flavors of the mornay cheese sauce that covered the dish. It was probably my least favorite selection among the table, but very unique nonetheless. The huevos came with tortillas with black refried beans, eggs cooked to your liking, avocado and a ranchero sauces on top. Breakfast potatoes accompanied the dish- my dining companion gave it two thumbs up! The fresh squeezed orange juice was very tasty, and the attentive server bringing endless rounds of coffee was much appreciated as well. Those that tried the bloody marys enjoyed them also. Overall, a very nice brunch option in the PV area. I'll be back when I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelpsters get a nice bonus here. If you Yelp this place, there is a coupon for your choice of a free hummus appetizer or calamari. I chose the calamari and it was amazing! For my dinner, I selected the pork chop. I switched out the rice for whipped potatoes, and it also came with asparagus, Everything was well prepared. The servers were very nice, and the atmosphere was just a notch over casual, so it was a comfy place to go.

I really wasn't impressed at all with this place. My visit started right off horribly with the rude hostess's. They had an attitude when my fiancee and I walked in, asking me if I had a reservation. When I stated that I did, they said they would see if they could squeeze me in. The food wasn't really that great either, and we only saw our waitress who was MIA most of our visit a total of three times.

Let me start off by saying that this place has a fantastic ambience and a great selection of beer (boulevard tank 7... Yum). It is a fun place to go with a group of friends or to watch any of your sporting events - Go Royals! Unfortunately this spot loses some stars with its food. I am a bit picky with my mussels, so these mussels definitely didn't live up to any of my expectations as they tasted sour and quite awful. Next up was the Santa Fe chicken salad which people seem to think is impressive but I don't want a salad drenched in a distasteful dressing, however the ingredients were great so I give a plus to that. I will give this food spot another try in the near future due to the atmosphere, but I wouldn't recommend this place as a restaurant to simply take a date or any visiting family... way better options in this Midwest town.

We returned to try their brunch and am glad we did. We shared a Colorado omelette added an English muffin for me kept the biscuit for her with the fried potato side. It was one of the best omelettes that we've tried in a while. Much better than our last stop in the Tavern. We'll try it again for sure!

We love coming here! Their Santa Fe chicken salad is awesome! They have a great happy hour menu as well. We've tried their hummus platter, chicken nachos, bruschetta and the fajita steak sliders are incredible!! We love the manager, Anthony, and the staff is super friendly!

One of my favorite spots in KC and it helps that it's down the street from my house. I have yet to be disappointed in a meal here. For lunch, a great option is the Southwest grilled chicken salad or the spicy ahi tacos off the appetizer menu. The turkey club on croissant is one of the most delicious sandwiches I've ever had. Stop by in the evening and try the roasted chicken, the grilled porter house or a filet and you'll be impressed. Everything is reasonably priced, the atmosphere is upscale but relaxed and the service is excellent. David makes up some good drinks at the bar, too.

Definitely make a reservation as this place gets packed, and for good reason! We waited at the bar for our table and I was intrigued by the blueberry cilantro margarita. Definitely different, but really good! I ended up drinking that for the rest of the night. For appetizer we shared the chili seared jumbo shrimp. WOW it was spicy! I enjoyed it but it left my mouth a little on fire. They're not joking that it's coated in chili powder and seared. The grit cake helped cool it off. For dinner I had their fish taco special and they were excellent! I love fish tacos and these did not disappoint. Dessert was the cinnamon sugar donuts with vanilla custard dipping sauce. People, I could eat that sauce by the spoonful. I still think about that dessert. Yum. This is a nice restaurant and I'll never understand people that bring their kids in these places. We had the pleasure of sitting next to a table of 3 moms with their 4 kids under 3 that were loud and throwing french fries on the floor. People, get a babysitter!

I had worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years. Because of this I have become very critical to the service, presentation and atmosphere. I was blown away. When we first arrived (we had a reservation) we had to wait for about 10 min. Because the hostess was so pleasant I had no problem waiting. As soon as we were seated the server came to explain specials and offer suggestions and answers for us. She was attentive the whole experience but not over bearing. There is a very fine line. The manager also came over twice throughout the meal to make sure we were doing good. This is the best service I have had in Kansas City in the past 10 years. Now... the food. Lets just say the grill cook did an awesome job. Prepared exactly to my specifications :) So the food was great but it is the people and service that will make me return. Great staff working there. If you want to have a great meal in an awesome neighborhood, check out Tavern!!

Really good food at a good price. Great atmosphere and a friendly staff. Nice music the night I went. Great piano player singing nice songs. Moved here from Philly and very impressed with this local Gem. Good mix of ages. Lively crowd on a Friday night. Definitely coming again.

Lovely atmosphere, very clean and quite cozy. I met a friend for lunch, and thought it was a bit pricey, but the service was excellent and the food was good. The hummus plate and the tavern salad was delicious. The beer/cheese soup was not very good and Luke warm to room temp when it came out...a bit disappointing. Overall it was an enjoyable lunch and would definitely go back again.

Tavern is a great addition to the booming restaurant surge in this part of town. This is a warm and welcoming restaurant that does not feel like it sits in a suburban neighborhood. The decor is really nice and comfortable. The food follows the same pattern, nice and comfortable. Nothing too fussy, but fresh straight forward food. Lunch and dinner are great, brunch needs a little tweaking. The service has been a hit or miss on several occasions leaving it at a strong four stars. If the service would match the food and the atmosphere, five stars could easily be achieved. If you feel like leaving the urban core without driving out south, this is the perfect spot to hit.

Walk into this place and you would never have known that only months before it was a Jose Peppers - how did it even last?! We visited Tavern in the Village on a Saturday night (04.02) and had thankfully made a reservation through Open Table earlier in the day, apparently everyone within a 15 block radius had the same idea. Host stand was organized and were kindly greeting and seating everyone as they arrived, busy chaos but controlled. Once seated, our waiter greeted us only a few moments later and took our drink order. Great wine list, several beers on tap and noted a wide selection in bottle (need list!). First round we opted for the Hummus appetizer, the dish was delivered with perfectly warmed pita bread and a sizable portion of hummus. The presentation has the hummus spread across the plate along side the pita so easy dipping and invites you to finish the whole plate, which we had no problem doing. Dinner is served. My date opted for the Turkey Croissant with Apples and side of fries. The turkey was thinly cut, deli style, topped with apple brie and small side ramekin of honey mustard. Operating the sandwich was slightly difficult do to its size but was very good. Second plate ordered, I went with the Grilled Beef Tenderloin which was topped with sliced red pepper and garnished with a slice of tomato and lettuce. Beef was visibly prepared medium with a warm center and again very very good. Instead of the fry side, I chose steamed spinach instead. Preparation was great, steamed well but not too much resulting in a pile of green mush. Slight warning to those impartial to garlic, the presence here is a tad strong but I enjoy a little extra garlic in my life. An additional courtesy and entertaining bit of the evening, a piece of bun from the Turkey Croissant fell on the floor, we picked it up and from who we assume was the owner was by our table, took the plate which the fallen bread was placed and offered "let me wrap that up for you." Clearly enjoying himself! After the plate clearly ceremony was over, of course dessert was in order. The Homemade Butterfinger Cheesecake came highly recommend and by the description there is no part of it that sounds bad - which proved to be true (image: gowalla.com/checkins/329… ) All said and done our bill was $65 before tip, that included - app, 2 plates, dessert, 2 wine, 2 bottle beer. Should you exclude the alc. beverages, leaving Tavern in the Village under $40 for dinner would be an easy task.

Five outdoor tables...blueberry cilantro margaritas. Do you really need to know more than that? The food was good, I had the Sante Fe Salad and ate every last bite. But I gotta tell you, I was immensely jealous of my friends sandwich, not being able to have gluten or dairy, I was drooling at the site. A huge croissant with melted gooey cheese, sliced apples and roasted turkey. She said it was as good as I imagined. We tried several drinks on their list of varied concoctions, the one I recommend is the Cucumber Ginger Refresher, deelish! The service was fantastic! Our server was also the bartender and was great when it came to recommending new drinks to try. The manager also came around several times (we were there 5 hours) and checked to make sure we were being taken care of.

I absolutely love Tavern and can't say enough good things about the menu, food, wine list, decor, staff and management. Management is friendly and makes efforts to greet and check on customers at a level that I've never seen before in a restaurant of this type. The bar and wait staff are very professional and well trained, and the restaurant decor is warm and inviting. Every time I've been (and I'm thinking it's upwards of 20 times), the food has been spot on. As far as their handhelds go, you can't miss, and I love the options for sides (you mean there are more than just french fries??? Yes, there are more than just french fries. Try the grilled asparagus or lemon-pepper green beans). Their cocktail menu is superb, and wine list is absolutely stellar (yes, they have white zin on the menu, but if you knew anything about restaurants and wine lists, especially in the JoCo area, this is kind of a requirement, but guess what??? NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO DRINK WHITE ZIN!!! If you've that much wine savy, try the Pedestal Merlot from Long Shadows in WA).

Excellent food. It is quickly becoming one of our favorites. I greatly recommend the Calamari appetizer and the pork steak. Service is very good. Sorry, but I have to remove a star because we haven't been able to get a reservation at a decent time for approximately six months now.

Had the chance to ditch the kids last night and had an hour to grab a bite, so my wife and I decided to go to to the Tavern In the Village. We took a bit of a risk because we thought it might be busy, but we were lucky enough to get a seat in the bar, which is very well appointed and roomy. Our bartender, David, remembered us right off the bat and knew which wine my wife had the last time we had been in and even remembered which bourbon i made my Manhattan with (hugely impressed by this).. He recommended a couple of appetizers for us (fajita steak sliders and the brie). We also opted for a side of the sauteed spinach with shallots and garlic. Everything came out promptly and the food was excellent. The owner, Kelly, stopped by and chatted with us for a few minutes, which added a nice touch. All in all a quick, but fabulous break for dinner!

Great place and a much needed addition to the Prairie Village area. I've been twice for lunch and was impressed both times. A nice varied menu that won't break the bank, attentive staff with an attitude to please the customers. It's been added to my list of favorite places. s

I know it is a matter of time and exposure before gluten-free and vegan diets become more mainstream, so I'm just doing my part to raise awareness. I would very much like to support local establishments that I can walk to, but it is difficult with only one or two ready menu items in almost all restaurants in The Village. My girlfriend and I are vegans, and we tried Tavern for the first time this week. We found one excellent dish, grilled veggies. It was delicious, and so were our cocktails. Next, we ordered the chicken tacos, and our server didn't charge us extra for subbing avocado for chicken. (Awesome, and unfortunately rare, for a substitution not to result in an additional charge.) We also ordered the tacos without cheese but forgot to ask to leave off the aioli (which has dairy... our fault!). I like that Tavern's menu suggests how to accommodate current menu items to make them gluten-free. I hope that, perhaps when they next update their menus, they might consider including vegan accommodations, or even better, add a few more items that have no animal products. I have a suggestion for how to diversify a menu without complicating the chef or servers' jobs, or compromising the unique personality of a restaurant. In most Thai, Indian, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, all dishes can be made with the customer's choice of meat or tofu. This way, the unique spices, vegetables, grains and preparation styles are the dish features. Just a thought... I know that there are a number of restaurants geared to our diets in the KC area; I just wish it were easier to order anywhere without being one of those picky menu-changing customers! We'll be back for cocktails and veggies soon!

I was just harassed in a private message by someone who was obviously connected to this laughable place. Their only "review" was a five star one for this restaurant and they have no friends on yelp. It must have been the same moron who wrote their crappy wine list. You are so clever, Dq h. Next time I'll share your horrible review with my many Facebook friends.

This place is just what the PV shops needed! We went on the first Friday night it was open, so needless to say it was busy. We only wanted to have a drink and maybe an appetizer there. We ordered the nachos as suggested from a previous review, and we both really enjoyed them. The drink menu was nice too, a lot of unique flavors and drink, the lemon drop martini was fairly good. We were intrigued by the dessert menu, and went ahead and ordered the brownie. And it was very very delicious! My husband, who isn't a huge fan of sweets, said several times while eating it that it was very good! The peanut butter caramel sauce was absolutely amazing! We are very excited to go back and try a full meal there!

Um... YUM!! I went with my husband, just the two of us for a quick little date night. The owner came over to see how everything was going, attentive staff all around. I just ordered their house salad with grilled chicken. It was just so very tasty, not huge but SO good. I checked out the kids menu to see if I dare return with the brood. Looks great. There were kids all around us (very early in the evening.) If you want a quiet dinner, get seated accordingly. Regarding drinks, I didn't order a cocktail but had a sip of my husband's blueberry cilantro margarita. Really good. And the coffee was delicious too. I wanted to like this place because it's close. I love it because it's awesome.

Have been their twice and the food was great. A slight twist both times on dishes I have had elsewhere (Chicken Nachos and Ahi Tuna Salad) so it was imaginitive without being wierd. Prices was average for the area and worth it for good food. So why only 3 stars? Both times my waitresses were horrible! I spoke with a bunch of other local moms about it Sunday at baseball practice and I think the issue is that both times I sat in the bar and not the resturant. Several others described less than desirable experiences in the bar but when they waited for a table in the dining room it was better. I will try that next time or see if they offer take out!

I was very impressed with Tavern. It has great atmosphere and I could see myself going there to have a nice dinner date or just to sit at the bar and grab a drink and watch a game. The food was really really good. I had a KC strip and it was cooked perfectly. The dessert was possibly the best I've had...ever. Butterfinger Cheesecake. The cheesecake and a cup of coffee(which is a unique blend from the Roasterie) was the perfect ending to a delicious meal. I will definately be back...multiple times.

I didn't have a great experience the first time I went but that doesn't stop me from giving a place another shot. The food this time was better. The service was still very good. The difference between my first trip and this one was that even though the food wasn't up to the standard I thought I should be I still thought I got a good value. This recent trip I don't think I got the quality or quantity of food for the price I paid. I'll probably go back again sometime, but it's still the 5th best dinner option in the Village Shops.

I was disappointed to see Jose Peppers go, but this is a refreshing addition to PV shops. Excellent food options, great service, okay wine list. I don't know if it's worth driving across town, but a great option if you are in the area.

For nearby residents, the Tavern is a most welcome substitute for cooking at home. You feel like everyone there knows you after a few visits - the staff truly makes guests feel special and welcome. They seem genuinely happy to entertain their regulars. For those with kiddos, while it is not a kid place, they have gone out of the way to endear themselves to my 8 1/2 year old sports crazed son. We live within walking distance and usually sit in the bar, at first we started this because of the wait in the restaurant proper, now we have grown to enjoy the vibe in the bar, plus the kiddo likes the TVs. We have come in soccer and Boy Scout garb and everyone has been lovely about it. The decor is clean and comfortable, really love the modern fireplace. They offer several lovely specialty cocktails, and a number of food items we repeatedly enjoy. The kid's tempura battered chicken is awesome (my son's grandma tries to eat his every time we take her), served with green beans or mashed potatoes and a starter of edamame, all nice departures from the regulars on the standard kid menu. I particularly enjoy the chicken nacho appetizer and the ahi tuna salad. The Wednesday Wine Down features $5 glass/wine and certain appetizers and is a great value for a quick drink and bite. Since we live just up the hill, we always see neighbors, yet interestingly also often run into friends who have come from various parts of the city because they enjoy the Tavern's vibe. It is not Cheers as it has more class. It is however most definitely a place where repeat customers are warmly and consistently valued and taken care of. The service is always attentive and speedy. For the space it plays in, Tavern is really hard to beat - welcome to the 'hood.

My husband wanted to surprise me and take me to Tavern for my B-day a place in our neighborhood, support our area, but we didn't get to eat...He made reservations 3 days prior, we showed up 10 minutes early, waiting 45 minutes, watched people come in after us and be seated, so Pam(Hostess) said this booth is yours as soon as they leave. After they left, this guy named(Anothony) sat people in our booth!!! I think Anothy may be one of the owners (What school of manners did they go to?) So, we left and ate at Panera! So sad to see a place with such poor customer service here in the village. I was so excited to eat there, but will never know since I will never go back! I've never been treated so badly at a resturaunt ever...McDonald's has better customer service in the drive thru!!!!

Been here probably four times now. First visit, I noticed that it was quite a culture shift from the Jose Pepper's that was there previously. But this was not too shocking given the Mission Hills location. Stayed to mostly appetizers, small plates. Hummus, fish tacos were very good. A fish sandwich entree was a gigantic bun, with a very thin piece of fish in the middle. BBQ chicken sliders, were again heavy on bun, light on chicken/sauce. The Guiness on tap makes up for some of the food shortcomings.

It is a shame that I have lived within walking distance of Tavern for a year and just now made it to dinner there. I do have my excuses: three little ones that share my last name; just doing my part to fund our collective Social Security. At any rate, Tavern is exactly like I hoped it would be: a nice fusion of rustic with a dose of upscale ambiance without veering into the pretentious zone. It is the type of place you see people you know from the neighborhood. I had the pork porterhouse which was quite good. The bed of andouille cheese hash that it rested upon and the sauce that had a hint of Tabasco complemented the dish very well. It was with chagrin that I had to eat the last few pork bites without the sauce as I had lapped it all up. Savor the sauce folks. Tavern rounds out the experience with attentive staff. The host even remembered my name when I was leaving which was a nice touch. I will be walking back very soon.

Snuck in on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. We both had great cocktails (it's getting increasingly more difficult to go somewhere in KC and not get great cocktails...I hope you realize what an excellent problem this is to have) and then some apps (too early for dinner). He had some cajun-style shrimp, I had sliders with 3 different proteins. Delicious food, good service. Go check it out.

I completely agree with Susan N. on this one - perfectly A-OK sums up Tavern in the Village. It's not spectacular, but it's a decent option nearby for us, if we don't feel like going to a pub or having a fancy dinner. We had this place on our list of places to try for a long while, and finally decided to go just after Xmas. The place was pretty packed with post-holiday crowds, but we had a reservation so we were seated right away. I ordered a glass of wine, and my husband got a cocktail which he liked well enough, except for the apricot puree - apparently it was a bit much, as he took a drink, made a weird face, and said he was trying to figure out what he was eating in his drink. Interesting. He did finish it, though, so it can't have been too bad! To start with, my husband ordered a cup of clam chowder, and I had the tavern salad. The chowder was pretty full of potatoes as opposed to clams, but it was very chunky and he said it had a good flavor. My salad was good, but way overdressed for my taste - I really need to be better about ordering dressing on the side, so that's my fault. For mains, my husband had the steak tacos, and I had the scallops. The presentation of my meal was very nice, and the scallops were cooked perfectly, though one did have some grit in it. My husband enjoyed his steak tacos, though he didn't care for the slaw that came with them, and their presentation was nowhere near as nice as the scallops! For the price, portions are a pretty good deal. Service was courteous, but did feel a bit rushed, as we were in and out in under an hour, and they brought our mains to us before I had finished with my salad. The bar area, which was very busy, looked nice, and I wouldn't mind stopping back in for a cocktail sometime. Although the Tavern didn't wow us, it was good to try somewhere new for us. We would definitely stop back in again to sample some other menu items or maybe give the brunch a try.

I've visited Tavern many times and the food has always been great. I spent over 2.5 hours at a table on a Friday night with some girlfriends (and yes, we tipped appropriately for our extended time occupying the table), and never did we feel rushed. My favorites are the ahi tuna salad, the chicken tostada appetizers (order this for my main course) and the filet is outstanding. It's relaxed without being stuffy, and it's great that it's a locally owned business.

Amazing food! Best fries Ive ever had, and the black bean burger was top notch. Rather expensive, but it's worth it.

Really, perfect in every way! Truly exceptional food, the kind you get in the largest cities inside those gourmet trendy food areas. We are extremely lucky to have such a great place in the heart of Prairie village!

This is an upscale neighborhood restaurant. If you live in the area, you should go and support it. Good food, good drinks, reasonable prices, and you will always run into friends. I'm glad to finally see something go into this space that works!

I try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but on my third disappointing visit I was inspired to write a review of this two star eatery. My main complaint is the poor service. The wait staff is extremely slow to take orders. On one visit (when we brought the toddlers) our server EVENTUALLY came back to take our orders after leaving us at the table for fifteen minutes. Later, this same waiter brought us our food EXCEPT the toddler macaroni and cheese and told us a bald face lie that it had accidentally been given to another table (Really?! A single order of macaroni and cheese with a side of green beans and split for two? Because that is so common). By the time their food came, our two-and-a-half-year-old twins were too hungry to even want their food, except for what they had snacked upon from mine and one of our friends. Ridiculous. The manager was very nice about it, but this sort of thing is very disappointing, and really should not happen when serving children. My other complaints about service are again based on the snails pace at which orders are taken and food comes out of the kitchen. Perhaps if I were drinking copious amounts of alcohol like some of the "girls' night out" groups that seem to frequent this establishment I would be too anesthetized by a boozy haze to complain. The decor is inoffensive, but the noise level is a bit too loud. This restaurant might be a good place to go to meet up with friends--especially if one is not on a timetable and wants to shoot the proverbial breeze during the leisurely wait for his or her food--but I will not plan on bringing my toddlers here in the future, just because of the poor service In relation to the children's order (as any parent of small children knows, with little kids, the food needs to come out FAST, so don't bring hungry kids with a ticking clock here; you'll be disappointed). If your children are old enough to amuse themselves with crayons, great! (By the bye, the crayons are fantastic! They are triangular along the length, so they do not roll off the table. Any parent reading this shares my enthusiasm for this; fetching crayons under the table becomes quite tedious. My overall review would say that the sliders make a good meal, and I would certainly order the again; however, I think I will limit my visits to carryout orders picked up from the bar. The service is not good, but the food is decent enough that I would eat here again, just without my kids (I like my toddlers too much to put them through this experience again).

I wasn't that impressed, but I only had a Caesar salad and the lentil cakes. The good: nice atmosphere, not too loud for conversation, it was fairly busy on a Friday night about 6:00pm. The bad: my Caesar salad (I believe it was $8-9.00) was very tiny and came with a tiny little roll. The romaine lettuce was crisp but Panera has a much better Caesar salad. The lentil cakes, I thought, was a very creative idea and with a few adjustments, could be much better tasting. I thought the cakes were overpowered by spices, the spice should bring out the flavor of the lentils not overpower them. All in all it was ok...

Delightful. My partner and I had comfortably settled into The Blue Moose as our "go to" for several years. Unfortunately the food and the service both took a nasty turn. Happened upon Tavern on the Village; a stone's throw away. Our server was adorable! She was friendly, fun and engaging. We chose to sit outside. Quaint tables and I was pleasantly surprised by the quiet. It's tucked away just enough. A Yelp tip suggested the Crab cake BLT; it was delicious! My wife had Asian Chicken skewers with some fabulous slaw. A similar slaw was a fave of mine @ The Moose..... but alas it was long removed from their now meager menu. Yum!! I can't wait to go back! Perhaps brunch tomorrow...... We've settled in. So long Blue Moose. Maybe you should be lovingly set to pasture. You're fading fast.

Absolutely amazing food. Had many items here, but the steak tacos are killer. Best flavor I've had on a taco before. They have great steak marinade, also really delicious oatmeal cookie from Dolce Bakery Co. and ice cream.the salty and sweet of the dessert makes for a memorable plate.

A really nice dinner on a recent weekend evening. Tavern was very accommodating for our large group of friends - 12 total. Our server didn't miss a beat throughout the meal, easily handling our large party by herself. The service was so good (waters filled, plates bussed, mixed drink refills offered) you would have thought we were a table of two on a Tuesday evening. Started the meal with a wedge salad. Dressing was a little blue cheesy than expected though the salad was still a great start to the meal. Seared pork tenderloins on top of mashed potatoes was the perfect entree though I was a bit envious of our friend's pork tenderloin sandwich and another's lemon-pepper bow tie pasta w/ chicken. This was our second time here after a so-so early evening meal about a year ago. I'm glad we gave Tavern another shot. Will definitely head back soon.

I did not get the same vibe others are speaking of. I thought it was loud and uncomfortable. It was a mix of 30 something's and 60 something's when I was there on a Friday night. I felt overdressed - but it was my bday. My family met me there with presents and our waiter didn't even ask if we were celebrating something special that night. At least the food was good but it didn't strike me as anything special.

So went here for a Yelp Elite event with my +1 & 1 year old step son. Not only was the staff absolutely wonderful but so was the owner of this establishment. He came out & greeted us and continuously stopped by our table to see how we were doing & if we were enjoying ourselves. The food itself was absolutely delicious & ingredients were clearly fresh and organic. I ordered the Tavern Huevos Rancheros which is a flour tortilla with black beans, fried egg, avocado, charred corn salsas served w/bacon and Tavern potatoes. The freshest ingredients are what make this dish superb! The flavors flowed together like a whimsical of foodie cuisine! I was delighted and so was my palate. My husband ordered the Country Style biscuits & gravy and it was your traditional B&G but with a Tavern twist. Fresh green onions chopped on top & some kind of spice we could not put our finger on that was sprinkled atop of the B&G. Absolutely wonderful & a pleasant surprise to the traditional dish. I have to mention the Orange juice that my husband ordered to go along w/his meal .. FRESHLY squeezed... mmm! I also ordered a coffee w/cream which by the way Roasterie coffee is the best & you can never go wrong w/a fresh brewed cup of this coffee. Our waitress was very pleasant & offered to bring my 1 year old a pancake & bacon which he enjoyed as well. I must mention also the mimosa I ordered. I am not trying to be over-the-top but it was the best mimosa that I've ever drank in my life! Freshly squeezed orange juice clearly filled my champagne glass with the wonderful taste of bubbly intertwined which was a taste of perfection. As we were enjoying our breakfast the owner graced us with his presence & introduced himself. I think this is so very important at any establishment w/good eats. Hospitality is very important & the staff of Tavern in the Village exceeded my expectations! The owner also later brought us a complimentary plate of Tavern Beignets rolled in sugar atop chocolate with a vanilla bean dipping sauce................... these were fresh, hot, and a melt in your mouth taste of heaven! We will definitely be coming back to experience their lunch, and dinner menu! I cannot WAIT! Cheers Tavern in the Village to a beautiful establishment, what I'd consider one of the best eats in KC, and for the best hospitality! Thank you Yelp (Matt) for the opportunity to try out this great place!

I am a slider fan at the Tavern at Mission Farms. I has colleagues in town and wanted to try a real dinner at the PV location. I ordered a pork porterhouse, and it was awesome. Pretty much one of the best pork chops I have ever had. The potato hash with andouille and cheddar was over the top. They use it in a couple of other places on the menu. They could pretty much put this on sliced car bumper and I would eat it. LOL The service was excellent from the front stand to the exit door. This is a very good place to eat!

I posted a review for Tavern in the Village after dining there on 3/3 and gave it a 3-star review. I received a message from the owner saying that they wanted to talk to me about it and try to address the issues that I had, which I thought was really nice. So, I emailed them my contact notice and then never heard anything back, which is disapointing since it would tend to indicate that maybe they aren't all that interested in constructive feedback after all. If you don't really mean it, then don't post that you want to discuss it further.

Infuriating! My wife and I had eaten at the Tavern in Mission Farms before this experience at Tavern in the Village and we'd enjoyed it very much. Last night we tried the Tavern in the Village primarily because it had a more expansive menu for Restaurant Week Kansas City, although the happy hour menu is what we landed on once we got there. We'd read some good reviews not only generally of the restaurant but also specifically about the great bar service. Our experience at the bar was, in a word, infuriating. When we arrived and seated ourselves at the bar (nobody greeted us at the front door), it took about a minute before anyone even acknowledged us, but that finally happened right before the buzzer - my personal time limit for being acknowledged after arriving. In hindsight, it would've been better if we had indeed left. We ordered our initial drinks and then had to ask for menus, and the other menus after that. The vibe here was great for neighborhood regulars, who are greeted with screeching hellos as soon as they walk in; however, we were treated like outsiders and basically a nuisance. I couldn't believe the stark difference in the way we were treated vs. the regulars. Not one time was an empty glass acknowledged, we had to ask - practically beg, really - for another drink, each time. The other people at the bar got their drinks refilled the very second they were empty. The guy next to us got his second beer opened before he was even done with his first one. It's nice to be friendly with the regulars but you shouldn't completely ignore new customers. The bartender, server 12 PM bar 2, the loud blonde woman, carried on familiar conversations with regulars as she worked back and forth across the bar (odd to have loud conversations at this distance), but never paid us attention despite our sitting squarely in the middle of the bar. Finally we just wanted to get the hell out of there, as she was busy trying to make another customer's drink. This bartender had plenty of time to greet a customer and open Christmas presents while neglecting us. Another bartended finally showed up, but still no action. We asked for the check, she slapped it down and walked away, and then proceeded to ignore the credit card, despite our saying again that we'd like to pay. So we grabbed the bill and card and went over the hostess to pay since it was obvious we were getting nowhere once again. It's too bad the manager guy didn't serve us because he seemed personable and helpful. He just shouldn't allow this woman to behave the way she does. We will never return because of this experience, and we'll tell everyone we know about it. It's unfortunate. Food wasn't bad but not great. Enough with the friend onion straws on everything.

The whole experience was very strange. I definitely won't go back. We arrived way early for a reservation, fully aware that we would have to wait. We had an 8:15 reservation. We grabbed some drinks at the bar, there we 5 of us..We had 4 different craft cocktails (not four of each of them!) They were awesome and you could definitely tell they were made with care.. Score for the bartenders.. I may come down and have drinks.. But probably not.. Hit up somewhere closer. Anyway.. It was really crowded in the waiting area and bar (to be expected) Without each other knowing (as we got closer to the reservation time) two of the group went up at separate times to check in with the hostess. The first response was, they are resetting the table right now. The next response was strange.. It was (and this was last Saturday so I can't be exact on the wording) "We are waiting for the guests to get up, see the pink on the screen, that is what that means" The manager/host showed our friend the screen as if she would know what pink meant? What! Just weird. Whatever.. So then, the manager/host comes around with a tray of wine.. red and white..Offers a few glasses to one party that was waiting for a table.. Maybe they were waiting a while so he was compensating.. Who knows.. Because he walked away.. Came back and then handed they rest of the wine off to a random couple.. The whole thing was just awkward for the rest of the people standing around.. So.. the food.. We started with the Grilled Baked Brie & Crab Cakes. Both we basic.. nothing to write home about. I had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin Sandwich.. In most (99% unless i have forgotten) a beef tenderloin sandwich usually consists of sliced beef tenderloin..I felt like I got gypped when my sandwich showed up looking little something you would put in a philly cheesesteak sandwich.. Ouch.. For dessert I had the Caramel Pot de Creme. It was really good.. HOWEVER.. it did not say anywhere that it was a Salted Caramel Pot de Creme. There we very large pieces of kosher salt in it. I love me some salty caramel but I wasn't expecting it and the pieces were just overpowering when you bit into them. Salty Salty....Salty mouth.. Yuck. Meh.. no.. not again..

Went on a busy Friday evening, the atmosphere was nice and the service was actually excellent, but it fell short in the food department. The good stuff- great great service, I was impressed and good drink selection. The not so good- the food, unfortunately. We started with the calamari app, unimpressive and almost no taste. I had the salmon for dinner which was pretty good, wish it hadn't been covered in butter sauce. It was a very small portion. My husband had the steak, it was incredibly over seasoned. In light of the prices and all the good restaurants nearby, probably won't go back.

It is great to see the success of this restaurant location in the Prairie Village shops. Menu has good options and is always consistent. Only thing that kept my review to a 4 was a waiter that was distracted and not attentive

This place is okay, but I was really hoping to love it. I like the location and I hoped to add a dining/drinks destination when meeting friends of the southland "somewhere in between" for get-togethers. All the food I have ordered has just been okay, but really no complaints. The hubby loves a salad there, which is impressive since he rarely orders things of the leafy variety. I think it is the Tavern Salad (where'd they get the name?). I think the difficulty I have with this place is how it teeters between slightly upscale and casual-sandwiches and salad-type. I like what they have done with the aesthetic, but the menu doesn't match to me. The first time we went for dinner the server told us, while we *could* order anything on the menu, he directed us away from the sandwiches and said the other items were more "appropriate" dinner selections. I have a problem with that. A) You are clearly trying to steer us to a higher total bill for a larger tip and B) If I am not supposed to order something, take it *off* the menu. For a place like this, I expect a different menu for lunch and dinner.

Perfectly a-ok. That about sums it up. The hubbie and I were house/dog sitting in the PV area and decided to try a couple places around. We pulled up our handy Yelp app and Taven in the Village popped up. Lots of stars and stuff. So we were excited to have some awesomely, delicious food. Instead what we got was bland suburban people food. It wasn't bad; it just wasn't awesome or even great either. We ordered a couple appetizers and a couple entrees: - Hommous platter - This dish would have been great except it was missing flavor. I didn't taste the garlic or anything else that makes hommous so wonderful. It was mashed up chick peas with very little in there to give it that good Middle Eastern flavor. - Spicy Ahi Tacos - We found this to be a little of a misnomer. They weren't tacos, but rather lettuce wraps. This wasn't bland. In fact, the spice of the cole slaw (which was actually very good) overpowered the tuna. There needs to be more a balance. - Tavern Asian Chicken - My husband ordered this and while he loved it, I found it to be a little too sweet for me. As a sidenote, I'm not a fan of sweet entrees so that's entirely me. - Fish Tacos - I ordered this dish. It wasn't underwhelming but it didn't blow me away either. It came with slaw, which was again, really good, but I think it overpowered the tacos a little. As far as the fish tacos, I've had better and I've had worse. These fall somewhere in the middle. The decor is nice. It's a cute little date place, though do expect kids. We actually asked to be reseated since when we sat down, it was fairly empty except for the booth behind us with the non-stop crying baby. It's not the restaurant's fault and the mom felt bad but I guess that's neither here no there. Just know that there could be crying children. We did see other kids there when we left and they weren't crying. So I'd say it's also pretty child-friendly. All in all, the perfect restaurant for your typical suburbanite who is a little nervous about trying ethnic food or coming downtown but wants to be just a little bit edgy.

This was our second time to this location for dinner, and our second lovely experience! This is a great locals' restaurant. The bartenders seem to know everyone, which gives the place a very friendly feel. We arrived about 8:00 and the place was packed. We were lucky to snag two seats at the bar, so we chose to dine there. The bar staff was slammed, taking care of a crowded bar and the wait staff, but we still received friendly and efficient service. To start I had the most amazing cocktail - a Tavern Sazerac, definitely a sipper, but oh so smooth. We had done our yelp check in and were thrilled to get an offer for free hummus or calamari! We chose the hummus, which was a winner. A huge plate of delightfully tasty homemade hummus with warm pita and celery and carrots. I had the Asian Tuna Salad. A tangy combination of cabbage, edamame and mangos served with rare ahi tuna and a fabulous dressing. It was sooooo good!! My husband had the filet sandwich, which was good, not great. The flavor was delicious, just a bit skimpy on the meat, which is served in small pieces, like stew meat, instead of a steak. We were more than satisfied though, after our appetizer and meals. We'll keep coming back!

Tavern in the Village feels a bit "tucked away" from the hustle and bustle of "the city," while only being a short 15-20 minute drive from midtown. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. I'm an immediate fan and I'm surprised they've only been open since March. It's clear Village is operated by a professional team who have been in the restaurant business for years. My friend and I arrived last night and found the bar packed with people. Not surprising for a Friday night, I suppose, but keep in mind that reservations are definitely necessary on weekends, as several people were turned away while we waited for our table (we were early). Decor: think warm, cozy, with a touch of elegance. I definitely think this is a great place to go in the wintertime (hello, fireplace). Nothing particularly stands out stylistically, and it definitely doesn't scream "hip", but it's comfortable and attractive. There are booths for parties of 2 and larger and who doesn't love that? We're not talking your Applebee's booths, either. These are a light color and maintain a level of elegance that is in keeping with the restaurant's intent. Upon looking at the cocktail list, I found it was hard to choose. Drinks are definitely of the sweeter variety and are intriguing if not particularly innovative with their ingredients. To be fair, given its location, I think they have the right idea with appealing to their customer base. I went with a lavender lemon drop, which is not something I'd ever typically order, but they had me at lavender. My drink tasted just like a lemon drop, though, without any hint of lavender. I then switched to a Pinot Noir (they have a respectable selection of reds and whites by the glass, but sadly no Italians). Some may say they play it safe with menu options, but sometimes we all want this type of simple, delicious American fare. Almost everything we ordered here was outstanding, so I can forgive a portabello mushroom "burger" and a veggie pasta dish as the only vegetarian options on the menu. For our app, we ordered baked brie (see photo. I am not the best when it comes to taking photos of my food, but this was plated so beautifully, I had to capture it!) which comes with berries, green apple slices, and several thin slices of toasted/oiled baguette. It's also topped with a bit of honey and toasted almond slices. Perfection! I appreciated that the brie seemed to be grilled rather than baked, which added to the flavor. I opted for a dinner salad and hummus app for my main courses and my friend ordered the aforementioned pasta (you can add shrimp or chicken for some protein. It'd be nice if tofu or seitan were also options for protein, although I realize that may be asking for a bit much!) I do feel that they could have allowed more time between the apps and the food, but the waitress was aware of this and apologized, which goes a long way in my book. It wasn't really a big deal because it's not like we were at all rushed throughout our two and a half hour time here! And again, you can overlook almost anything when presented with a beautiful plate of food that tastes as good as it looks. The salad, which consists of greens tossed with dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds and a dressing that is outstanding (and the *perfect* amount), made me extremely happy. It normally comes with feta, but I asked to leave it off because I don't like feta. The hummus is good... but not in the league of the other items we ordered. My friend's penne smelled divine and came with crispy veggies and kalamata olives. This left us stuffed (portions are generous, though I wouldn't have minded if the salad were larger) and unable to even consider dessert (although the menu is nothing short of tempting!) Service deserves more mention, because it's phenomenal here, from reception to wait staff to bus staff to management. We were asked twice by management staff if everything was to our liking (and not at all in an intrusive way) and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Needless to say, I'll be returning to Tavern in the Village. I should mention it's the type of environment that is both date and family-friendly (obviously on the fancier side). The restaurant, especially the bar, is loud, which seems at odd with the overall ambiance, but like I said, it was packed last night, so it's not like it's the restaurant's fault. I'll be back, that's a promise!

A coworker and I went here for dinner after work. We were really pleased with the menu and as both of us are gluten-free, that's saying something. We were satisfied with the selection of things that either were already GF or could be adjusted easily. I ended up ordering the ahi lettuce cups without the sauce but just had them bring oil and vinegar. It worked out really well and was super tasty. Not too badly priced either.

As always, so yummy! Looking forward all day while working to a lovely night out to dinner and was not disappointed by a trip to Tavern in the Village. The fish special (mahi mahi with jerk seasonings, etc) was fantastic. Service wonderful and of course no complaints about a great glass of wine. Looking forward to Tavern in Mission Farms opening soon...it will be like a Tavern Sandwich.

Unsure where to go for dinner tonight, we decided to check Yelp. Where else to check but the reviews of the inestimable Joi B, who used to be KC's Community Manager. She has several KC area lists and I found the Tavern on one of them. Alan made 7:00 reservations. It's barely 10 minutes away from where we're staying, so it was an easy drive over. I've been to the Prairie Village Shopping Center several times w/ my late sister-in-law Lois, twice to the Art Fair which is held here in June. The Tavern has been open since February 23, 2011. It's a large, attractive space w/ a bar full of high tables and ladder backed stools. It was crowded and the noise level was pleasantly high. The dining room is screened from the bar, literally, w/ a fine mesh screen. Very attractive look. The dining room is large, w/ booths lining the sides of the room and a few tables. We arrived and were going to be seated immediately until I requested a table rather than a booth. That made for a relatively short wait in the bar and soon we were at our table. We were given menus and water. I ordered a lavender lemongrass drop and Alan ordered a beer. Both were brought to us in short order. My drink was tasty, although I tasted neither lemongrass nor lavender. It tasted, good, like a regular lemondrop and I didn't question it. Alan liked his beer and finished it, which is unusual. A Yelp check-in gave us a free appetizer, either hummus or calamari. Though we had calamari last night we decided to have it again. It was crispy and tasty w/ sliced banana peppers mixed in and a slightly spicy chipotle aioli to dip it in. It was brought to us by a woman we later realized was a manager. When she dropped it off she asked if we needed anything us and then looked startled when we said, "forks". She immediately and apologetically brought us silverware wrapped in black napkins. Our server told us about the fish special, which sounded delicious, w/ mango salsa, small shrimps and shredded coconut on top, giving us the price w/o being prompted, which I appreciated. We decided to split a Tavern Salad of mixed greens, feta, sun-dried cranberries, roasted pumpkin seeds w/ house rosemary-basil vinaigrette. She offered to have them split it for us in the kitchen. I decided to have to have the roasted half chicken, which came w/ mashed potatoes and lemon-pepper green beans. Alan opted for fajita steak sliders w/ a side order of grilled asparagus. The salad was wonderful, very tasty. My chicken was very tasty and moist and the green beans were plentiful and delicious. Alan liked his sliders and the asparagus was very good. We decided to share an order of grilled brie drizzled w/ rosemary honey and served w/ sliced apples, blueberries, sliced almonds, toasted baguette for dessert. Joi had raved about it and though it was billed as an appetizer, it was perfect to share as a dessert. We loved it. Throughout our meal the two managers stopped by to check that we were enjoying ourselves. It felt genuine and not pro forma. Service was lovely and attentive, the space was attractive w/ original artwork on the walls which was for sale. W/o question we would return. If the Tavern were in the Bay Area we'd be regulars.

My family loves Tavern in the Village. We've been going there since they opened and often go with our 3 kids, but we also frequent without them. The personal touch of seeing Anthony and Kelly in there every visit is one of the many things we love about it. Food & Drink: I can honestly say I have tried just about everything on the menu and never had an item I didn't love. Some of my favorites are the chicken nachos (especially at Happy Hour), the beef stroganoff, chicken tacos, and sea scallops. I can also say, that while no Capital Grille, their filet is pretty good if you are wanting a steak-fix. They have a great, and reasonably prices wine list - if you're into reds, I'd recommend the Au Bon Climat or Guenoc. Families: The kids meals are awesome and only $5. They have something for every kid to love - mac n' cheese, buttered noodles, chicken fingers, etc. And. on top of colors and a coloring page, they also give the kids the little twisty craft things that keep my kids all busy for the entire dinner (ages 4-12). It's a must-do in PV...

Went to the Tavern on a wet Saturday afternoon. We were excited about this place. Unfortunately, it left much to be desired. We sat at the bar and weren't greeted very quickly. The bar tender made a few weird comments including one when my girlfriend said she didn't like melon. He replied, "nobody's perfect". The Bloody Mary was lazy as well. Probably won't be coming back.

Excellent service. Great neighborhood joint. My drink was strong. My fried calamari was fantastic and they took great care with my numerous food allergies. The place was packed yet we never waited or wanted for anything.

Every time I'm in town to visit family here, a few of us end up at the Tavern. It's far and away the best establishment ever to occupy the space. The owners are there every night and visit every table, and they remember the preferences and past conversations with regulars. The hosting staff always remembers our favorite table and seats us there (a cosy spot near the fire in winter, a booth by the high windows in summer). It's simple and unexpected, but I have to say the soft chicken taco handheld is one of my favorites. Very tasty! The pasta, the stroganoff, and the steaks are equally perfect. The Tavern salad is the best appetizer salad in KC. And you must have the doughnut holes with various dipping sauces for dessert -- so light and warm and perfect they melt in your mouth. There's also a good wine list, nice beer selection, and interesting and pleasing cocktails. It's the details that make a place, and the Tavern unfailingly gets every detail right.

My parents live close to this restaurant and we tend to go there as an easy option for dinner. Their food is pretty good- not amazing, but it's always satisfying and sometimes surprisingly delicious. The atmosphere is pleasant, though it gets pretty loud on the weekends due to the bar scene. We always get great service there, and we intend on returning in the future!

One of the worst meals I have ever had. An unqualified disaster. Wedge salad was light on dressing, which might have covered up the brown core in the wedge of iceberg--does anyone LOOK at the food being served? The "Pork Osso Bucco" was hideous, burned on each end, with the rest overcooked--and this was a small jointed shank. Is it really Osso Bucco if its not veal? Come on! It was served swimming in a soup of what may have been risotto and vegetables. I gave one star because my friends were ok with what they ordered (not osso buco) This restaurant had a great rep--did they change chefs or management? Just moved to KC area ten months ago--this is absolutely the worst meal I have had in that time, and in the top three of the worst meals I have ever had. So come and have some wine (check your glass for floating bits first) but DO NOT EAT HERE!

3 stars for atmosphere, great service! Food, tonight was bad- I had the meatball sliders. They could have been good, a real contender, but the amount of salt in the balls made them completely inedible. I live this place and will give them another shot!

Thanks to mis-direction of my co-worker we ended up in Prairie Village over lunch for no good reason. This gave us the opportunity to try Tavern in the Village for the first time for both of us. It was a hit! I love the way they have changed the decor. I especially loved the see-through fire place separating the bar area from the dining area. I almost wished we had asked to sit in the bar. Next time! Food and service were both a great hit. My co-worker had the chicken tacos served with soupy black beans and a vinegar-y slaw. I had the Southwest chicken salad which was full of romaine, avacado, black beans, crunchy tortilla strips and a very moist and flavorful grilled chicken breast. Tasty. Even though they weren't dining with us I just want you to know that the ladies who sat at the table next to us had good lookin' food, too! Wedge salads, soups, chicken sandwich. I am looking forward to my next trip back to try other menu items. Good job on lunch today, TITV!

We were on the east side of the county for a swim meet and decided to grab dinner afterwards. I was super psyched as I had heard great things. It was ok. I had the crab cake sandwich and my hubby had the steak sandwich and we went half-sies on both. Both were good but nothing that blew me away. I think if I went back I'd try more of an entree vs. just a sandwich.

A big fan of the Tavern, I was quite disappointed on Valentines Day. Sat at the bar to watch some Olympics and mingle. Mingling was good, the Tavern crowd's very comfortable. But the gentleman who seemed to be running the bar had an odd attitude. Then my scallops came out after sitting awhile, and the asparagus needed more steaming. It was a meal on the cusp of sending back. Next my wine order was forgotten, and my waitress disappeared. In the end my waitress comped me the wine and did serve it. Fortunately the folks around me were fun. Food, wine and service, however, were a bust.

TITV earned one of my rare five-star reviews with last night's dinner. Everything about it was top-notch from beginning to end. Entering the restaurant, we loved the warm ambiance, all stone & wood, and the lovely fireplace between the bar & the restaurant areas lent a nice touch on a cool autumn evening. Packed, and noisy, but we were seated immediately. We hadn't been seated five minutes when Kelly, the owner, came by to greet us by name (The Guy had won a gift certificate in a golf tourney a little while back, which he must have mentioned when he called to make the reservation) -- we chatted about golf for a few minutes. The calamari appetizer was excellent. Yes, I have an obvious weakness for squid, but when it's not done well it can be awful. This was tender & delicious. The ahi salad was equally amazing, beautifully seared fish on a bed of cabbage, avocado, pineapple, so many lovely flavors blending together. Because it was my birthday, we were presented with a dessert of small doughnuts/beignets... whatever they were, they were rolled in cinammon sugar and presented with chocolate & custard sauce (and a candle.) Yummy, bite-sized, and very shareable. Kelly stopped by our table a couple more times through the meal to make sure we were happy. The entire staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive. We were very impressed with the level of service throughout. I'm frankly surprised by some of the negative reviews, but I can only think that TITV was still working through some of the early opening-day bugs... last night was just about perfect for us. Warm, friendly atmosphere, great for date night or to meet some old friends... highly recommended.

This was my first visit to Tavern In The Village. I had been to their new location in Mission Farms, but I always seem to like the originals better and I did! This was also my last stop for Restaurant Week and a wonderful finale. It is January in KC so, of course, it is cold. Lucky for us we got a table directly across from the fireplace which not only helped us warm up but served as the perfect lighting for our date night. Our service was fantastic and we were seated immediately. Now on to the food. We each ordered off of the Restaurant Week menu. I got the bruschetta, fish and risotto, and the donuts. Each part was phenomenal. The bruschetta had in-house pulled mozzarella with fresh tomatoes and balsamic. The fish was cooked perfectly and flaked at the touch of the fork. The fish was resting on a bed of risotto which was probably the best risotto I have ever had with small pieces of fresh vegetables in it. FANTASTIC!! The meal was finished with the donuts and dipping sauce - a great ending! I enjoyed my meal with the lemon lavender martini, which was not too sweet and the perfect combination of lemon and lavender aroma. This is a place you can take your family or kids, but also sit in the bar with some friends. I love the versatility and the location and highly recommend giving this place a shot. I will definitely be back and I will be getting the risotto. :)

Had the calamari appetizer (again), then the grilled pork porterhouse and my date had the lemon pepper bowtie pasta (with chicken). Calamari still great just like last time, the pork chop was extremely good (lightly seasoned, simply grilled) and the andouille cheddar hash was awesome. Stole bites of the chicken bowtie pasta, which was also a strong 9! This is one of my favorite restaurants - they never disappoint!! Go there soon!

We ate at Tavern in the Village on Christmas Eve. This was our first visit to this restaurant and our first Christmas Eve meal at a restaurant. Surprising to me, the restaurant was packed ... i just assumed everyone eats a nice Christmas Eve meal at home or with relatives! Glad I made reservations ahead of time. We "checked in" through Yelp and for doing so, we were able to get a voucher for a free order of their hummus appetizer. So give that a try when you go there and have your phone Yelp app handy. I had the grilled salmon, my wife had the beef stroganoff, My daughter had the grilled chicken and my son had something else ... so I feel like we had a good representation of what they had to offer. All the meals were excellent ... my salmon was cooked perfectly, nice and tender. My wife's stroganoff was great as well .... this coming from my wife who makes a great beef stroganoff herself. Service was good ... the waitresses kept my water glass filled and we never really had to wait on anything very long. All in all .... I can't find much to complain about. I had one of their special drinks .... the Mango Caipirinha. It was good, but my glass was so jam-packed with ice, that the drink was gone in just a few sips. When I pay $9.50 for a mixed cocktail, I would hope to get my money's worth. So I'm discounting my rating by one star from an otherwise flawless meal. We would definitely return.

I eat here quite often. Never disappoints. The roasted chicken is great, the tempura batter chicken fingers are delicious and the southwest chicken salad is great. Never had bad service or food, always too quality. Knocked off one star for the prices which to me are a bit steep. But, you get what you pay for.

I met a group of friends here for dinner. The staff and service were great! I ordered the Crab Cake BLT, it was great! Everything else that was ordered at the table looked wonderful, everybody was really happy with their food. If you have a larger group, I would make a reservation!

B This place has really transformed itself from a Jose Peppers to what is now called Tavern in the Village. Very comfortable, very modern. Great bar, roomy leather booths. Packed. So be sure to make a reservation if going after six p.m.. We started with the crab cakes and calamari. Both were excellent, better than most other places. Crab Cakes had some horseradish in them that really added to the overall flavor. Two cakes to an order so you might double it if you have a party greater than 2. Both served with different types of aoli. The lady had a rotisserie chicken that she enjoyed but did not love. It was served with some delicious green beans. My mother had the cajun pasta, which I tried, and it was top-notch, but not too spicey. My father had the fish special which was mahi mahi served on a bed of polenta. He loved it. I ordered the pork porterhouse. It left much to be desired. Overcook and under seasoned, not very large, as the menu suggests Substituted asparagus (gross) for french fries. The fries were nothing to rave about. I bet Jose Peppers had a better fry product than this place. Our server was a bit pretentious. He described to us how to read a menu and suggested heavily that the "hand-helds" are just for lunch, which is bullshit. Obviously chasing that larger tip. The owners/ managers came around a few times to check on us, which is always welcome. Oh, also order the house salad. It costs $3 more to add to entree and it is worth every cent. So good. Probably going back just for the salad. All in all, it's a great, relaxed atmosphere to grab a table at the bar area and have some appetizers and cocktails. I will be going back.

My husband and I eat here about once a week. It is always hard to decide what to order because we like everything we've tried: the grilled salmon is the best I've ever had, as is the Santa Fe Salad. The fish tacos are great and even the Pasta Bolognese is great when you need Italian. If you like tomato basil bruschetta, this is the best you'll ever have: roasted tomatoes smothered in melted fresh mozzarella, topped with basil pesto and a drizzle of balsamic syrup....it's unbeeliebable. The Sunday brunch menu is really good too. We always make a reservation at dinner because it is always crowded with a friendly local crowd. The bar, which has a few tv's, has good happy hour deals and also gets crowded. I hope this place lasts forever.

My husband and I use Restaurant Week to try places we've never been. Sometimes there are hits and sometimes there are misses; TITV was a definite hit. Upon arrival we were quoted a 25 minute wait time, but our actual wait was about 15 minutes. While we waited we noticed that the host knew many of the customers by name and took the time, even during the busiest part of the evening to help an elderly regular out the door. I read about the restaurant in the Pitch. I think that their reviewer said the decor reminded him of Martha Stewart and I would say that is an adequate description, a mix of modern and classic. During the evening hours the soft lighting made the space feel special and intimate. My husband and I went on 1/27/12 and were seated between two raucous groups of Baby Boomers. As a thirty-something I feel a little silly saying that they were so loud there were times I could barely hear my dining companion - but they were having a good time. The customer mix is about 65 percent Boomers, 35 percent 20 and 30-somethings. Since we were there for Restaurant Week we selected our items from the special menu prepared for the program. However we did peruse the regular menu and noticed a nice variety in both dishes and price points. It appears a really nice meal can be had for around $15-$20 per person. We both had the Iceberg Wedge with Bleu Cheese dressing. The salad was dressed with just the right amount of delicious, house made dressing. Bacon crumbles and a sprinkling of tomatoes completed the dish. The salad was topped with fried onions - I scraped 80 percent of them off as I found them unnecessary. The salad was complimented by a very small pretzel roll. For dinner I had the filet with a veal demi-glace accompanied by mashed potatoes and asparagus, my husband had the pork marsala with mashed potatoes and citrus green beans. My steak was beautiful and perfectly medium-rare, just as I ordered it. The meat was quite tender. The mashed potatoes were flavorful and the asparagus was a nice compliment to my meal - however as you read on you'll discover that I only had a bite or two of the asparagus. The veal demi-glace was delicious and rich and not one drop was left on my plate. Unfortunately I think my steak sat in the window for a few moments before my husband's meal was ready, because my plate came out on the luke warm side. I'm sure, had I complained, that another meal would have been brought out to me, but I don't send food back at restaurants. However my server came to ask if the steak was cooked to my liking, and, the manager stopped by our table to ask if we were enjoying our meals, so the opportunity to complain did present itself, I just didn't take it. My husband's meal was piping hot. His marsala was so good we both dipped our potatoes in it, slopping up each delicious bite. He didn't enjoy his citrus green beans - so I traded out my asparagus. I really enjoyed them, but be aware that they are quite citrus-y. The trade was good, he was pleased with my asparagus. For dessert I enjoyed the mixed berries with the creme anglaise. The creme anglaise was so good I considered asking for a straw to drink up every last drop. My husband ordered off of the Rest. Week menu and decided to go for the famously reviewed Butterfinger cheesecake. He thought it was delicious! Our server was very attentive. I asked for a wine recommendation to pair with my steak and instead of choosing a really expensive glass he suggested a glass that was half the price of one I was looking at - I appreciated that he didn't try the up-sell when given the opportunity. He dutifully kept our drinks refilled and checked on us regularly. All-in-all we had a great experience at TITV. The loud tables made it a less-than romantic evening, but that certainly didn't deter from us having a good time. The flavor of the food was excellent, even taking into account my cooler-than-expected main course. I will definitely go back. I would also recommend this restaurant for people who are entertaining picky eaters; the place is nice enough that you feel like you're getting a fancy dinner, but the offerings range from very basic to complex. There's something at TITV to please everyone.

I really enjoyed Tavern in the Village. My wife thought her sandwich was fantastic. I had the Pasta Carbonara and thought it was okay. It was bit dry and the portion was really small for $19. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected for the price. Our server was very good and the hostess?/manager? was great. She checked in on us several times. We'll be back!

Finally made it out to Tavern in the Village this past Sunday for brunch. I don't go to church and I'm not a yuppie, but yes I do like brunch. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere we'd like. We chose a high top in the bar area by their open sliding glass doors. The weather was warm, and the breeze was nice, so why the hell wouldn't we choose this table? Our server/bartender was ultra friendly, make us laugh and offered his honest opinions of his favorite dishes. We had the Tavern Huevos Rancheros as well as the Saussice Madame-Provencal. Both had outstanding preparations and tasted even better. The coffee is their own Roasterie blend and very good. Awesome atmosphere here since the bar is separate and has the option to be open air. There are three TV's if you wanted to catch a game, but the volume isn't up loud enough to interfere in your dining or drinking experience. The dining room is separate and modern, definitely comfortable. I'll be back fo'sho. Bravo Tavern in the Village.

I'm visiting family and happened on to this place for lunch. The food, beer, staff and layout were all excellent. The Chef's Soup of the Day, chicken tortilla, was delicious and the calamari was surprisingly good for a restaurant so far from the coast. My bartender/server Charlene was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back here next time I'm in town!

I have to start with the exceptional service since that's what started the evening out right. From the hostess's excitement for us being seated 10 minutes early to the super friendly waiter letting me make substitutions and attentive servers, it was the kind of service I wish other restaurants would try harder to emulate. This was my first time here so I ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, assuming it was their best stuff. For $30, I got the same portion sizes as if I would have ordered individually - so normally would've paid $50 for caesar salad, filet mignon (perfectly cooked) with veal reduction, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Dessert was actually not on the special, but I was craving the peach cobbler so they graciously let me substitute that in. It was huge - enough for two although my husband ate his own cobbler pretty easily. We also had calamari for an appetizer which was seasoned really well with a chili aioli dipping sauce and flash fried jalapenos. So glad we decided to go a little outside our normal Brookside/Plaza eating grounds. We will definitely try again!

I shop and prepare dinner at home close to seven nights a week, but sometimes I feel like dining out on Friday night. We tried the Tavern two weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent ambience, service and food! The crowd ran from young people to young families to the elderly, and it has a warm, cozy neighborhood feel. Last Friday, I again felt like letting someone else fix dinner, so we went back and had an equally pleasant experience. The menu is fairly limited, but neither of us has had anything we didn't absolutely love!
